

Nvidia shadowplay (or replay as i think its now called?) uses a variable frame rate. Im no video pro so take this with a pinch of salt, but this is my understanding: I’m new to both to be honest so any help would be appreciated. I normally only record games that aren’t as demanding (emulators like I said above) but I’m wanting to start recording more gameplay of newer PC games, and since my PC can handle ultra settings at 4K I’d like to be able to capture them at 60fps if possible, so I just want to find out if I’m best using OBS or if I should use Nvidia Shadowplay instead? According to VLC it isn’t dropping any frames so I’m not sure if this is either because I’m encoding with NVIDIA NVENC which uses the GPU instead of CPU, or if there is some other setting I’m not using properly. I then watched them side by side.įor the most part they look indistinguishable, however in areas of high movement, if I’m running and turning a lot, or just about to land from my parachute for example, the video from OBS gets very choppy. I recorded some gameplay today with OBS, then once that was done I used the Nvidia GeForce Instant Replay tool to save the last 20 minutes.

I use OBS and it works great for things like my emulators if I’m recording anything from SNES and Genesis, up to PS2, WiiU and Dolphin. I normally get about 120 but it dips to about 90-100 when recording via OBS on 4K ultra. I am playing on 4K ultra settings, and my frame rate is higher than what OBS records. I’ve also made sure I set my source to record game capture instead of display capture, and play the game in full screen. I find that Nvidia Shadowplay offers a much better output with a lot less lag than recording through OBS.įirstly, on OBS I have the following settings: Unfortunately, I don’t have a dedicated streaming/recording PC, so I record from the same PC I play from.
